new greens...they have them in Central Market here in Austin! They looked good, but couldn't buy any as I was out for the whole day and didn't think they'd survive the afternoon in my handbag...

We don't have a Central Market here When I lived in Dallas, it was my favorite store!

Heinz still makes pickles, relishes, etc., but they're very hard to find.

You may be able to find them online.

Personally, I lament the disappearance of the Warsaw Falcon pickles. Yum.

They make relish. That is all I can find in the stores. It has a different spice mixture than their whole dills used to have! still lamenting dill pickle deprivation.

Default Heinz pickles

Heinz did NOT exit the pickle business. Still producing their original dills. Avaialable at Publix. Expensive, but the original oak barrel sour dills you are expecting.

That's good to know. Unfortunately I've never set sight on a Publix in my life.

I have a vague memory of trying to get some direction from Heinz's website at one time, but not getting a useful response.

This may be a stupid question, but is a dill pickle one of those big pickles you buy individually out of a bucket?

lol

Dills are sometimes sold like that -- I'm guessing that they're the only pickle sold like that -- but you can certainly get them in a jar. That's the only way that I get them.

When I lived in Montreal (Canada), you could find GREAT dill pickles -- sour ones, with tons of garlic -- at any grocery store. When I moved to Connecticut, just like with bagels, I had to try dozens of different kinds of pickles to find the good stuff.

I finally came across Ba Tempte brand. I was in heaven -- I felt like I was home again. I even sent them an email thanking the company for existing.

not necessarily. A jar of sliced or whole pickles by Heinz is one of the best old style dills.

Nalley's dills are supposedly crunchy old fashioned style pickles, but as I'm Aussie I've never gotten into the American dill pickle "thing", I prefer sweet gherkins = )
