Normally I'm really not a big fan of food in "bar" form. Seems just sort of unnatural to me. Probably due to all those PowerBars and Zone Bars I used to eat while trying to lose weight. (bleck) But DH and I were at EarthFare yesterday and needed to grab a quick bite before heading home. He got a banana bread LaraBar and I got a Raw Food Revolution chocolate coconut bar.

Omigosh, they're actually good! Mine tasted like a fudge brownie with coconut, and his actually tasted like banana bread. With about three ingredients and no preservatives, I can definitely get behind them. And they taste yummy! How about that? And at about 300 calories and 19 grams of fat for mine (it's cashew and almond based), it works for an actual meal replacement, which I'm super happy about. Definitely a far cry from PowerBars..

What's your favorite?

Honestly, my favorite is probably any one I don't have to eat. The cranberry-ish LaraBar was ok. My sister, who does not diet or exercise, bought a case of Cliff bars to send to my Soldiers in Iraq. She missed the mailing deadline and ended up eating the Cliff bars as a midnight snack before bed. Not all at once - one a night...still pretty funny, though LOL

Kashi crunch bars. Not as a meal replacement, but as a snack.
As far as for an actual meal replacement, I haven't an idea. =s I've never replaced a meal with a bar.

The problem with instant oatmeal is you can't just eat and run with it. I try not to do it too often but occasionally I need to grab something and eat it on the way, particularly for breakfast.

I did like the Kashi meal bars and I've tried quite a few. I want to say they had 10 grams of protein, 10 grams of fiber and were somewhere in the 180-200 calorie range. I've run out so I can't remember for sure. Many of the other brands of protein bars just make me feel like crap in an hour. I don't know if it is the glycemic index or what but even the adkins bars made me feel yucky.

As an alternative, does anyone recommend any shakes?

I think he's saying he eats it as is straight out of the package with no water or milk or anything...rip open, pour in mouth, repeat 2 more times

I carry CLIFF BARS for a quick meal on the go, with bottled water, sometimes while traveling I carry a few.

I like the peanut butter ones too, they taste great, and they have no sugar!
