I'm 67 and I remember foods and treats that I loved as a child and cannot find anymore. Many companies have been bought out or taken over and their products just do not taste like the originals. Me and my wife loved Creamsicles and Fudgesicles when we were younger. The original taste is just not there. My wife loves to make cheese cake with graham cracker crust - but the Nabisco cinnamon graham crackers don't have the cinnamon, sugar or size that the old crackers had (the new ones are bland). When we were first married, over four decades ago, we loved Ragu spaghetti sauce. Several years ago it changed it's recipe and we found it thin and watery.

It is possible that companies changed their recipes because it was found some ingredients where harmful? Maybe it is possible that the old ingredients just are no longer available or the cost escalated or they simply wanted to make more money? Whatever the reason; we still miss some of the old taste.

I would like to hear from others that feel that their products are not the same and long for the original and not an "original" replacement.

I think some of it is attributable to new formulations designed to make the foods more healthful. Like no transfats, lower sodium, etc. Plus, the addition of HFCS instead of cane sugar alters flavor somewhat. That's why if I crave a "sugar" drink I go for a Mexican Coke.

Chicken. Raised differently now I guess, though strangely enough the price on sale is pretty close to what it was back in the 60s.

Some things like fruits and veggies seem to be better. Coffee is better.

I think in some cases the taste buds change from age, especially diabetes.

It could be a change in taste buds or it could be a change in formulations - but we still miss the original!

And other things can change even in the mfr didn't change the recipe -- different varieties of tomatoes are grown now, so maybe it's the actual tomato that changed and Ragu didn't (although, I do believe that particular company changed their recipe in the '80s).

I have noticed a taste and most importantly a texture difference in Best Foods/Hellman's mayonnaise.

I wonder what they did.

it's all about the bottom line. HFCS instead of sugar, different preservatives, different dyes, companies get sold but keep the name, the list goes on and on......

I noticed this a number of years ago with Twinkies.

To me, modern Twinkies taste like crap. And from the list of ingredients on the package, they are crap!

But weren't they once and originally made with real butter and cream, or am I holding a false memory?

I'm too lazy to Google and research it right now.

Cheaper ingredients, reformulated recipes and older, more worn out taste buds are all contributing to the change in taste.
