Well folks, today is a very sad day for those of us in Australia who have grown up with the blue oval.

Today the Ford Motor Company of Australia has announced the closure of it's manufacturing operations.

The Ford Falcon (and Territory) will cease to be made in the Broadmeadows & Geelong plants in October 2016 - ending 91 years of car production.

As someone who grew up in a family who's beloved family car was a 1973 Falcon 500 V8 and since being of driving age has owned several performance Falcons, I have to say that today's announcement really is a kick in the guts. Apparently Australian labour costs are just far too high for them to justify sticking around as they now have 3rd world countries with people prepared to work for virtually nothing.

I understand this wont mean much to a lot of people in this section as most are American, but to me and a lot of Aussies on here, this is a huge loss.

That is sad. The Falcon is an awesome car. We North Americans always wished we could have.

Notice the price of a new car does not decrease when auto production is shifted to low cost countries.

Thats true. Not just for cars. Recently our biggest clothing manufacturer moved operations to China, but the price stayed the same.

Sorry to hear this, like many American enthusiasts, I've always been a fan of the Australian Fords. It's a sad day indeed.

At least you still have Holden. Many of the best GM cars in the us are based on Holdens.

So what you have to do is boycott Ford products from now on. Make it obvious, as the entire country of Australia, that you are horrendously dissatisfied with the decision to move production to less expensive countries. Ford won't make as much money with their slave-labor-produced cars if people don't buy them.

I wish we'd have boycotts of that scale in America. Maybe Australia can do it better than we ever have.
