2011 Ford Mustang V-6 First Test - Motor Trend
[LEFT]Unlike the old 4.0, which for 2010 still employs a heavy iron block, an archaic two-valve/cylinder single-overhead-cam valvetrain, and a measly 210 horsepower, the new 3.7-liter is a technological tour de force. From lightweight aluminum architecture and a four-valve/cylinder dual-overhead-cam valvetrain to twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) and a deep-sump aluminum oil pan that stretches oil-change intervals to 10,000 miles, the 3.7 boasts modern goods. More important, it boasts the goods that matter to enthusiasts: horsepower, as in 305 of them. And torque? Try a very healthy 280 pound-feet, or 40 more than that of the 4.0.

2011 Ford Mustang V6 First Drive
The Duratec V6 features virtually all the superstar technologies of internal combustion — except forced induction and direct injection. The ignition system features an individual coil on each spark plug, the tuned intake manifolds are made from a lightweight composite material, and even the oil pan is made from aluminum.

I gotta say, I'm a little suspicious that these mules aren't ringers. Otherwise these engines are underrated by, what, about 30%? That's an awful big discrepency.

You're talking about the Motor Trend dyno video above? It's pretty stupid they don't say whether they're talking about crank or wheel HP

But the 307 hp has to be crank, as the 13.7 time is in the same ball park as cars putting down similar (crank) HP

Ok, wtf?

I find it hard to believe that the 5.0 Mustang would run away from the Camaro like that, who the hell was driving the Chevrolet? My Grandmother?

It looked like it had the acceleration of an Impala.

Exactly. I'm a GM man but even I'll admit the new 5.0 is a little faster but not that much.

That is until GM tweaks the 6.2 lol. I'm glad Ford put the 5.0 out again, It'll make GM strive to do better. Good ole American competition.

No offense but I don't see the Mustang pulling away that much either. The first race the Camaro must have been asleep on the green light.

Isn't that the same old 5.0 emblem on the side of the car? I think thats pretty cool.

The Vette ZR-1 and Z06 and the Viper GTS ACR are amongst the best handling cars in the world, taking down cars that cost several hundred grand. The Solstice and Sky handle good, the Focus hatchbacks were the benchmark for their class, and the latest Cobalt SS handles extraordinarily well. Would you believe that little Cobalt almost handled as well around the Streets of Willow as the vaunted Nissan 370Z? With FWD?!?!

Now. You were saying?
