My wife and I would like to retire to the Ftl area but are on a limited budget and someone recommended the 55+ communities but I have not read anything favorable except the Century Village in Boca. Are there others. We have a son and family in Fort Lauderdale and they are in Victoria Park but that area is waaay too expensive for us. We are looking for something safe clean and quiet, no beach. after living thru Katrina in New Orleans we do not want to be near the water.

There are lots of 55+ communities in Tamarac and Margate, both condos and single family homes.

florida is the land of 55+ communities.

to be honest, I wish they would all go away, theres too many of them, its like night of the living dead when u see all the old people walking their dogs in the evening, randomly wondering the street, usually lost.... or complaining about something.

u should have absolutely no problem finding a 55 community. Inverrary is very nice in Tamarac area

Check out Lauderdale West. Nice community, centrally located, safe and 15 minutes to your son. Only draw back is they insist on painting all the houses the same, otherwise you have your choice of smaller single family homes (100-150K) or duplexes (60-80K), clubhouse with classes / amenities
