Hi Everyone! I am planning to move to SoFl next summmer to join my BF who reloacted there a few months ago and I have started my research and have also visited the area twice in the last 3 months (in addition to many prior visits but at that time no intention to move there)...The location I pick to live HAS to have a great High School as my daughter will be starting her freshman year...I see and understand that there are only a few good HS in North Broward/South Palm Beach counties and when I visited 2 weeks ago I focused on seeing and spending time in Boca Raton as 2 of their High Schools are great...I did like Boca but not sure if it is the right fit for us...I plan to come down many more times over the coming months to "neighborhood shop" etc...but here is what I want to know... everywhere I read and research, I see that Pompano Beach High School (according to the numbers) is a great magnet HS. It has even higher test scores and county/state/country rankings than both Boca Raton HS...Now... I am pretty familiar with Pompano Beach having stayed there a few times and my BF is living there (for now)...so I know it is not the best place to live. From what I have seen first hand some parts are nice (mainly along the ocean), and others are pretty shady...so I'm going out on a limb here to ask... are there ANY nice/safe neighborhoods worth looking into in Pompano?? Gated communities? SFH/townhouse in a gated community? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! I just can't seen to ignore the facts that I am seeing about this HS and I can't seem to totally rule out Pompano even though I know the area isn't great.

I'm afraid Weston is too far west for me. My friend grew up there and his parents still live there and it is wonderful but wouldn't work =( I am looking to live North Broward/South Palm Beach.

Upon digging a little deeper and making some calls I found out Pompano Beach HS is 100% Magnet and you have to apply for the school/program and don't have to live in Pompano Beach which will broaden my search =)

Anyone have any insight on Coconut Creek? Seems like it is nicer and safer than Pompano and not as expensive as Boca...Looks like Monarch HS is an okay school?!

The only public HS in my town in NJ now which my daughter would most likely attend if we didnt move- got a 4 on greatschools but then got a Bronze ranking when US News did their National HS ranking. I originally asked about Pompano HS bc their rankings are great across the board and now that I found out it is 100% magnet and by application, I can only apply and hope she would get in but she is a smart honor roll kid...I now need to find out if the boundaries extend west for Pompano as I know it is not the safest area to live...the lady I spoke to yesterday said they do extend north and south but she doesnt have the exact info and wasnt sure about west...I just have to dig deeper. Just trying to keep my options open as I mentioned in my original post, I am not sure if Boca is a good fit for my family.

I live in Coconut Creek and probably live about 4 blocks away from monarch high.
It's a great school. It was built not that long ago....maybe sometime around 2004?? It's about 9 or 10 years old I guess. The area has really been built up within the last 10 years. Right next to Monarch HS is a large "lifestyle center" known as the Promenade at Coconut creek and has shops and stores and restaurants, etc. it's super cute.

I love coconut creek tho. It's got decent schools, it's safe and clean and neat and they're currently building more housing at poloma lakes and Altis....which are right across the street from monarch. It's quite close to boca, parkland, coral springs, pompano, etc. Centrally located. I enjoy it very much.
