Here are my reasons:

1) Multi-cultural - You get people from all over Latin America, Caribbean, New York, Canada, New Jersey and a few strays from Europe. You hear Spanish, English, French, New Yorkan, etc.! It is great education.

2) Weather - Where else can you see the sun shine most of the time? And then run for the umbrella in the afternoons? Then see people in parkas in January? Be within 15 to 20 minutes of the beach?

3) Taxes - There is no county tax. There is no city tax. There is no state tax.

4) Affordable real estate - I have a nice townhouse in Plantation with a golf and water view. Quiet yet close to everything. I can get to FLL in less than 10 minutes. To MIA in less than 30 minutes. To South Beach in 30 minutes. To Las Olas in 15 minutes.

I am sure there are many more reasons, but these are my main reasons!

Love this post! Great to see a positive post about all the great things there are to live in area!

Continue this thread!

Great restaurants with great variety because of all the different countries that are represented here.

For the most part it is very clean.

Many real estate choices on places to live. You can get some pretty reasonably priced places in great areas if you are flexible.

I agree about the taxes..most people do not realize about that until they live here though.

You can outdoors things all year. Like the beach. Boating. Fishing. Bike riding.

Love this post we've in SWFL and can get to Miami in 2hrs to watch pro sports, such as the Orange Bowl, NHL Ice Hockey,
You can play golf all year and not have to wear a coat. Great beaches and Sunshine and I love to see the snowbirds come back. Just means more activities.

Good post and a welcome breath of fresh air. There are multiple sides to every story, and it's nice to see some of the positive sides get equal time.

No County, City, or State tax? Hardly.

That lack of an income tax is nice, but I'm still paying sales tax on everything and have a $5,000 property tax bill.

But you don't pay that sales tax on food or medication, and you would in some states. And depending on where else you live, that $5000 property tax bill might be double. Are you eligible for a homestead exemption, or is that tax bill with a homestead exemption?

All states need to TAX to get revenue needed to fund services that they provide. Each state extracts revenue from a combination of sources. No two states get their revenue (taxes) from the same sources and at the same level (rate). States are going to tax one source of revenue higher then another state and another source of revenue lower then the other state. For some people Florida's tax structure may benefit them for others maybe not. If taxation is a major consideration, and it is to many people, individual circumstances will vary greatly from state to state and from person to person. One states tax structure may benefit some people but obviously not others.

This is an "I Love So. Fla " thread.
Those taxes would be much higher in if were elsewhere in an area as nice & clean as S. Fla. & where your home is located.

I love it so much I miss it since we left a while back & am looking to move back.
