I would talk to a realtor..the complexes are all overpriced, but the rental homes are a good value now. I agree Wilton Manors is great, as is Victoria Park. I can't think of the name of the condos on the corner of Broward Blvd and 15th street (that used to be Pinecrest apartments) but that is a location worth paying a bit more for. Walking distance to Las Olas and the beach and downtown.

is that the yellow condos in the southern half of Victoria Park? That is a nice area. To bad they don't have three bedrooms

That's the one, I lived there back when they were Pinecrest Apartments.
I heard they totally updated and renovated a bunch of them when they went condo, I would have thought for sure they would have merged some of them to create 3 bedroom units . It really was the sweetest location.

Avoid anything West of Andrews Ave and beware of gay slumlords renting in this neighborhood (they usually post on Craiglist with the heading "near Wilton Manors"). BEWARE. I rented a place in this neighborhood from the landlord from hell here. Go just a block or two West of Andrews on the other side of the old GLCC and you are in one of the worst ghetto's in Fort Lauderdale. Horrible place to live. Hundreds of poor Moderator cut: offensivewalking by on the street at all hours of the day and night. I forgot to lock my car recently and someone went through my car leaving the trunk lid, passenger door and glove box open. My mentally unstable, alchohlic landlord would go through my garbage, harass me constantly without any kind of provocation and never perform needed repairs. I later found out he never had a tenant last more than 6 months and was in debt almost $300,000 on a place now worth less than $100,000. Stay in EAST Fort Lauderdale, preferable with a street address that begins with NE and not NW!

LAKE WORTH, FL just south of West Palm Beach. - Liberal, affordable, fun beach, historic, charming downtown full of restaurants, top Gay Pride annual parade 5000+ attendance, close to gay bars in West Palm and Wilton Manor, city manager use to be a man, art is king, new Cultural Council Center moving there, remodeling historic beach Casino.

Wilton Manor (Wilma) neighborhood in Ft Lauderdale is fun, but to gay to live there all time for me. Orlando is great, but no beach or breezes. Very hot and lots of bugs. Lake Worth is only 3 hour drive from Orlando.

I see young gay couples walking down the street holding hands in Lake Worth. Lake Worth is also a great place to retire also. Check out the Cottage restaurant Tea Dance every Sunday evening.

I'm gay and live in Broward - welcome (soon!)

It depends on whether or not you want to live in a gayborhood, or just an area where you're not surrounded by crazy Bible-toting extremists. If the former, definitely look into Wilton Manors, which is the gay hub of Broward County. Huge LGBT population, plenty of good housing options there, and it's also a very walkable area. If by "gay-friendly" you just want an area where people accept you and don't care about your sexuality, basically the entirety of our fair county is good - and why not live on Las Olas itself (although you may have to increase your rent range in that case unless you take on a roommate.)

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions or want more info.
