^^^ The roads are not the issue down here, it's the idiots on it...

I should have been more specific. The incident where the old guy was in the wrong lane but shaking his fist at me was in Island Park and the other two with the extremely hostile and aggressive retirees was in San Carlos Park. I've never had any driving "incidents" in Cape Coral, either.

I love the advice you got, Yachtcare, and that brings up a good point. When I first moved down there I was given a lot of inside tips from longtime residents. I was told by a boss that Fort Myers was called Fort Misery and that the people are nasty and the downtown area is almost non-existent. He also said Cape Coral was called Cape Coma and that it was mostly void of trees and a lot of the roads went to nowhere. He said it looked like hell on earth.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. People down there generally make fun of the place. This forum probably has the perkiest people I have ever encountered in Lee County. I don't necessarily agree with all the doom and gloom that these people sputtered, but in 10 years about 80 percent of the people I came across said horrible things about the area or were generally negative about the area. Estero snowbirds seemed to be about the happiest. Especially golfers. True.

I've always said it reminds me of Detroit also

Remember this little saying?.................."Cape Coral, land of the newlywed, and the nearly dead". And in reference to the typical city council infighting, the nickname "Cape Quarrel". "Land of the U Turn" rings a bell also.

This morning after posting about folks that fall asleep at lights, I got behind one that wouldnt budge from the left turn lane when the arrow turned green. Not sure what was more frustrating, watching him fiddling with something on the passenger seat and not moving, or the fact that my horn doesnt work I have got to get that fixed!

YC.......

There's an unwritten rule around here that horns are not to be used unless something is life-threatening. Of course, you don't really need it. Folks let others out into traffic and wave each other on at intersections, not to mention we wave to strangers. Ah...

It took about a year, but all my hair that fell out when I lived in Lee County finally grew back. No, I'm not kidding.

Another thing I noticed when I am in MA, people use those things called.... err... Blinkers???? Ya I use mine, it came standard in my Jeep, but I see a lot of cars down here where it must have been optional.

Chris,
I'm with you on this one. I was surprised my first visit to the CC area that very few motorists used their "Blinkers". It got to the point that I felt out of place when I used mine (I use mine for every lane change and turn).
I thought we were bad in the Boston area, but other areas are not too far behind.

I notice people in Florida don't seem to no what "No Parking Fire Lane" means in shopping centers.

They line up like they're at JFK and park the car, or the leave the motor running, or leave someone in the car. Rather than just park the car 100 yards away.

And most of them could use the exercise.

I was beyond thrilled when I saw a cop one day pull in and put on his lights and start writing tickets to the three cars doing this.

It is very dangerous as they block the view and you have to drive around them, meanwhile you have shoppers walking back and forth.

I have never seen it anywhere else where it is so hard to follow the rules.

How about the pulling to the left lane when a police officer is stopped on the right, I see people blow on by like he isn't even there. OR when an EMT or fire truck is coming some of them act like they don't even hear it...

There are people that just don't get the laws of road. Some people think they can do what they want and most of the time there are no cops around to set them straight. I know that when someone messes with me on the road there is never a cop around.

People always cut me off in AZ. One time I was trying to get off the freeway and some idiot was speeding and cut me off so they could get off first. We almost crashed together and it kept me from getting off the freeway at the exit I wanted off at.
