Would like recommendations on a place to stay for a couple weeks in February. We want to look at property with the idea of maybe moving there.
Will probably chicken out on the moving but we will get out of the cold and snow for a time.Don't need anything fancy or elaborate just reasonably priced and clean. We are a retired couple.Would also appreciate recommendations on property preferably on a salt water canal.

We stayed at the Casa Loma on Del Prado while we were looking for
our place. It is located in the southern part of the city where most of the salt water access homes are located. They are very friendly and reasonable. Casa Loma. A Motel Inn located in Cape Coral Florida for unique Hotel lodging.

+1 on the Holiday Inn Express. Also, another place to check out would be the Hideaway Resort on SE 5th Ave. It's a little dated but very reasonable, clean and the owners are 1st class!

Also check out homeaway.com or vrbo.com if you're looking at renting a house. Most of the time it could be cheaper.

We used VRBO when we were looking at properties in the cape. At the time (1 year ago), there were plenty of listings. We rented off a German owner who used his house only in January. What was the conflict?

VRBO had several two and three bedroom places but we only need one,all those were unavailable anytime in February.Didn't want to pay for rooms that were not going to be used.

We have used VRBO several times only needing one bedroom, some places will lock the second bedroom and rent it as a one bedroom? The nice thing about that is you still usually get two bathrooms.

I know it might be a longshot but if the owners are looking to rent they might rent it to you at a reduced rate? You can send them a message asking, the market conditions may be in your favor and you might get what you want.

One piece if advice I received that helped when we were looking at properties was to stay in a house in an actual neighborhood vs. a hotel. You learn a lot about the neighborhoods plus you learn a lot about the house types. It really helped us understand what we wanted and what we didn't. It was only my husband and me, so we didn't use all the available bedrooms either, but the experience was definitely helpful.
