Hi All,

I posted a similar question on the Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte forum when I thought the job my husband was considering was in that area. Today he's been told it's in Fort Myers.

My question(s) is... where can a young family (we're in our 40s with two 4 year olds) live around that area with great schools, low crime, newer single family homes (like 2000 or newer min. 3br/2ba) in a super family-friendly (pool, playgrounds, walking trails), pet-friendly community (2 middle aged dachshunds )? We're not opposed to HOA type communities. If fact, I kind of like that it forces folks to keep a certain standard on their properties. My initial research tells me Fort Myers is more expensive than Port Charlotte/PG/North Port. Are those areas simply too far to commute from? We intend to rent (at least initially).

Can you recommend cities/neighborhoods that meet these needs and what should I expect rent to run me there? Thanks in advance for your replies!

Try Cape Coral. It has rules that make the whole city sort of like a HOA. There are lots of families in your age category. We have low crime and lots of parks.

Default I think the gateway area would fit your list

we don't live there but it seems there are alot of families living in the various communities, there is a school, stores, lots of newer homes. It's east of 75, but still pretty close to stores and activities.

We moved down a year and a half ago so it's all still pretty new to us, but we love it. We bought an older home off Mcgregor Blvd -we wanted to be close to town and the beach.

Huh???

Id look into a place like Bella Terra in Estero. I know a lot of younger families in there. Also Stoney Brook has a lot of kids.

Unfortunately, Schools are not very good in comparisons to other areas, especially in the North East.

Check out Sandoval....in Cape Coral. Located off of veterans pkwy.

There are a lot of families with children in that development, also they have a lagoon style pool, walking trails, dog park and low hoa fees.
