Is it true that you pay a tax on a "in ground" hot tub versus a free standing one. I am not talking about a sales tax but a property tax. Trying to decide which way to go on this.

Anything permanently attached to the land is considered "real property", and will be assessed (taxed) as such. A portable, or free standing spa tub would be considered "chattel" or personal property, and would not be taxed by the assessor, unless you do something to make it a permanent installation........example, the refrigerator is personal property, until you build it into a wall, making it a permanent part of the home, then it is real property and would be assessed as such.

Agree.....but I doubt the additional value of a pool and spa vs just a pool is material.
