Nope. My Libertarian party doesn't have enough people holding office to even be a blip on any corruption data. Which party doesn't make any difference as long as Republicans and Democrats are the vast majority. The left and right wings are both attached to the same bird. Dems would have pilfered that money just as voraciously if presented with the opportunity.

The thing is, your chart isn't from the DOJ. It's from a blogger with the Washington Post, who looked at data put together by other sources, some saying they got their data from the DOJ. Those sources clearly picked and chose what data to pull and how to present it to back up their own biased standpoints. There's a big difference between the DOJ being the source and someone analyzing data they took from the DOJ and presenting their conclusions.

That same article start off with:

"Which states are more used to corruption? Well, depending on how you define corruption, it could be Florida, or Louisiana, or Tennessee, or New York, or Georgia. And then there’s the District of Columbia."

It goes on to present several different charts put together by several different entities that show different pictures of which state is most corrupt.

I'm not saying Florida's government isn't corrupt. Of course it is. It's government, and that's what We the People have allowed it to become nationwide.

Here's the deal, I don't even disagree with your cause here, but just like the way you present your case for preserving Pine Island, you do your cause a disservice by using blatantly skewed information to support it. So, I just thought I'd use your own source to poke fun at you a little bit by presenting a much less horrible picture of what you're trying to claim. If you can find that chart presented just like that on the DOJ's web site instead of compiled by a biased media outlet, please do give us a link. I searched and found nothing like it.

And your question about whether or not the DOJ would lie? It's a federal agency, ultimately under the thumb of the current corrupt administration. That's like asking if the IRS would lie, which we all know the answer to.

Have a nice day.

Nothing like cherry picking selected statements from your linked sources to come to your own foregone conclusions, but doing so does not back up those conclusions.

Just looking at the chart you reference, which ranks federal charges for corruption state by state, you will see that Florida comes in at #4, after NY, CA, and Illinois, and its followed by TX, PA, and so on. If you read the text of the article discussing types of corruption and other charges against various states, you will find a plethora of other states coming in as the "winners" in terms of numbers, and if Florida is mentioned, it's listed in with a number of other states.

So you can trumpet all you want your claim that "FLORIDA IS #1" with regards to public corruption, but not even your linked .sources show any such thing.

And you still read it wrong.

Please don't present evidence without reading it.
Actually the OP's original link was to a secondary source that linked the Harvard study, but apparently also didn't read it beyond cherry picking the "data" in the Harvard blog article in an attempt to support their own foregone conclusion about Florida's top of the heap category in charges of corruption.

I think reading the Harvard blog with any amount of intellectual honesty, an open mind and some reading comprehension would lead the reader to quite a different conclusion, that while Florida is mentioned a number of times in the various aspects of corruption discussed by the blog, it's doesn't come out at the top in any category they looked at.

And as you said, this"study" looked at perceptions of corruption by reporters in various states who responded to their questionnaires, so one would have to consider the subjective nature of the responses. They also mention in the shortcomings of the study that the findings were dependent on the number of responses they got from a given state. They mentioned that they got no responses from Louisiana, believed to be one of the most corrupt states out there, but with no responses Louisiana shows as a state with no corruption. They also mention the partisan nature of corruption investigations for politicians, with both failure to investigate and excessive "investigations" on politicians dependent on who was in the position of doing, or requesting the investigation.

Kind of tells you that it's wise to take these studies with a very large grain of salt, if you're really looking for facts.

Would there be a motive for Harvard and/or the DOJ to charge that Florida's GOP led government is the most corrupt? Of course! FL is one of the most pivotal states in the upcoming presidential election. Any leg up for democrats would be supported by the Obama administration and the ultra liberal Harvard.

I think we can all agree:

Broadly worded / Over Hyped Legislation: Bad

More layers of Govt.: Bad

Politicians: in the words of a famous person, " This is the Best we got folks! Garbage in, Garbage Out", George Carlin.

Corruption in Government: Why state the obvious? We wouldn't have the problems we have if we were capable of electing a Govt. of the people, for the people and by the people.

Instead we have Lawyers who are highly paid to write confusing laws in order to better their constituent of the week...

Finally, none of this gets better until we say, "No", however, we are not a country that can support itself anymore, too many people pandering and trying to legislate "fairness and equality".

I hate to say this but I think it needs to be said. The people in Florida deserve what they get.

We are taught that our government is of the people
for the people, and by the people.
In order to make this true, we must BE the PEOPLE.

The apathy of the people is what makes it all possible

People want to ignore politics and politicians. Problem is, they don't leave you alone.

Participate, vote. You don't, don't complain about what you get.
