My stepmom called me an "alarmist" this morning and said that it's too soon to tell if Irma will have a huge impact. By the time it's not too soon, it'll be impossible for her to get out. She mentioned something about going to a local high school as a shelter, but what good will that do if it's underwater?

However, I just bought an older home in Cape Coral and the windows are 47 years old. The roof was replaced in 2006 and was scheduled to be replaced next week. I was also in the process of getting estimates for replacing the windows with impact windows. I'm supposed to move there in October after all the renovations are done.

Someone told me to put duct tape on the windows but does that really help? All of the windows are those old timey jalousie windows.

Just realized I made a mistake. The roof was replaced in 1996, not 2006.

Call around, you may get lucky if another shipment comes. Those were all gone by Sunday.

The European model that predicts the path of a hurricane , which by the way has a good reputation for being accurate, is showing Hurricane Irma more left or west and headed over our area. I hope it is not accurate this time .

This hurricane is really getting on my nerves. I feel like we have been dealing with it for over a week, first it's veering west, then east, now west again. Make up your mind *itch!! The last I heard Hurricane Jose is the next one in the pipeline. :-(

People are lining up at shelters already. I can't imagine how scary this is for many people, especially those with young children & pets. Now they have to hunker down in a shelter for days before Irma even arrives. What do people do in shelters while they wait? I've never gone to one before.

I would imagine setting up your little section would be first on the agenda. Next, getting to know your immediate neighbors. If smart, they will have brought books or cards. Mostly they will probably be talking about the weather.

^^ what I would be doing if I was in a shelter.
