In ChrisA70's defense, cops routinely ask "do you know why I stopped you today sir/ma'am?" It is VERY common.
Getting stopped for going 2 mph over the limit is a bit excessive by the officer. If he wrote a ticket for it than it's absolutely ridiculous IMHO.

Chris, I checked out Hampton Beach on the map.
I ran into the same thing while renting on Long Island’s North Shore. I had to drive through a wealthy water front community on a peninsula to get to my place and the local police were basically security guards with their police station at the entrance.
Asharoken, New York - Google Maps

Drivers new to the area would come around a corner at the bottom of a hill and find a normal sized speed limit sign with a second sign (I believe on the same post) warning that the speed limit was strictly enforced.

It was very easy to drive right by the sign while enjoying the beauty of the area. I found out the hard way that they hid-out along the main road and would pull you over and ticket you for anything over the 30 or 35 mph limit. It was clearly how the community supplemented the funding of their little police force. That was also when I found out that the radars in police cruisers have an audible alert that can be set to go off at any speed they select. An officer can be sitting there doing paper work (or whatever) and when you approach him going 2 mph over the limit the thing goes off.

This has nothing to do with officers standing out in traffic. It was just a good old-fashioned hiding behind the bushes speed trap.

I have to say that I too, have an issue with the name calling. We have family members involved in law enforcement. The officers out in public risk their lives just going out the front door in the morning. We have a relative still carrying around a bullet in him.

You know how cops like to ask "Do you know why I am pulling you over?". They always do.... And by the way smart guy or girl, whatever you may be. 32 in a 30, give me a break. Save it for the people doing 40, 45.... 2 mph over, what a jackarse to pull someone over.... it was an old fart at that, probably only a summertime rent a cop....

My grandfather was a cop in Chicopee, MA, for 22 YEARS. This one cop was just a jerk. I was in NH, with my MA plate, and they feed off out of staters. I was 19 years old then too, so pulling over a kid was justified also according to his attitude. I am, and always have been a firm believer in respect to the police and any law enforcement, believe me. This cop was just a joke. An old rental cop as I said before in another post. I have a best friend in MA that is an officer too. Did not mean to offend. I did not also say ALL cops, just this one, right?

No problem. Trust me, friends and family as officers, I would never say all of them are, but there are a few out there not worthy of holding a badge. It came out the wrong way as I said it in the post.

Wasn't there a casino? I remember the ads on the radio when I was a teenager for "Hampton Beach Casino."

OMG! I just Googled it and Melissa Etheridge is performing there tonight. I love her.

To be honest, I don't ever remember being there. However, since I spent the first 40+ years of my life in MA & NH, I'm sure I passed by once or twice.

They called it The Casino, but it isn't a casino, casino.

I'd love to see Melissa Etheridge!

I can't believe you don't remember it! It is fairly honky tonk, but not as bad as Old Orchard Beach, ME. It had more or a family atmosphere. Of course, that was years ago. When I got older, I preferred The Vineyard or Ogunquit.

It was kind of a right of passage for us teens. In fact, a kid from my class got hit crossing the street right there and never graduated.
