In my quest for more info on this oil spill stuff, I have come across things in other threads, and by just googling a bit.

Some of the info comes from a lenghty video posted on youtube of the Alex Jones program from Thursday this week. The source is sketchy, at best, but the subject matter is sobering and makes sense, and is backed up with some scientific data. Senator Bill Nelson(D-FL) has also mentioned that the area around the well seems to have been fractured, and oil is now seeping upward thru the seabed, not just out of the broken pipe. If this is indeed the case, even the relief wells will not stop the flow.

Theories are now surfacing that they drilled into a "batholith" of superheated "abiotic" oil. It is coming out of the pipe at somewhere between 20000 and 70000 PSI. Nothing man has made can contain that much pressure. They are literally trying to stuff a cork in a volcano.

The bigger problem(as in bigger problem than the oil itself washing up on the beaches) may be the Volitile Organic Compounds (V.O.C.'s) being found at dangerously elevated levels in the air above the blowout. According to the report, this testing was done by NOAA. The gaseous clouds of toxic gasses that could potentially be carried on the winds inland contain Hydrogen Sulfide, Benzine, and Methylyne Chloride in the air over the gulf.

Part 3 of the Jones video, most pertinent info here.

Hopefully it is all just a bunch of bunk, but might be worth being aware of and getting a follow up on, nonetheless.

On the one hand, Alex Jones is often called the "Conspiracy King" so it's hard to take anything he says seriously. On the other hand, if it's true that this is much more than a leak from a well, then it makes sense why BP and our government is trying to conceal it from the public, to avoid mass panic and chaos.

It's difficult to know what to believe. First I read that dead birds were found in Texas covered in oil. Then I read that report was false. Then I read that scientists found large plumes below the surface, but BP denies they exist.

I am in no way downplaying the effects that oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico can and will have on our precious ecosystem, but how are we supposed to know what's really going on a mile beneath the surface?

Years ago when I frequented the beaches, I wouldn't use any oils or lotions on my skin that could be toxic to fish. I spent extra for biodegradable and eco-friendly products because, when I was traveling, I learned that PABA and other ingredients can hurt sensitive coral reefs. Now we have tar balls floating up on Pensacola Beach. Just makes me want to scream.

If they have to nuke it, do it before another zillion gallons of oil are leaked.

If I understood what I have read elsewhere correctly, it will take longer to drill the angled shaft necessary to place the nuke in, than it will to drill the relief wells.

Even then I assume they're taking their best guess as to where, when and how to detonate it, and how big of a bang is required.

If this is the "batholith" scenario, they risk further fracturing, or possibly even a collapse turning the current leak from a 24 inch wide pipe, into a leak from a mile wide gaping hole. And irradiating some of the oil, and the gasses spewing into the air at the same time.

Like I said before, this seems to be rather unprecedented in it's scope. I do not believe that anyone really knows what they're doing here. Let's pray that they dont turn a mega disaster into the apocalypse.

Yachtcare is now officially..............a teensy, weensy, tiny bit....concerned

Thanks for posting that Yachtcare......I watched the whole thing and it is startling.I know Alex Jones can be on the fringe some times but the numbers are the numbers........those levels of toxic gas are frightening.

How much oil reserves are there in the leaking well? It is hard to find the answer.

The prospect may have held 50 million barrels of producible reserves of oil.

Here is a desperate idea.

If there are fissures in the seabed that can't be plugged, the only alternative might be to pump all the oil out of the well. You would need about 20 oil tankers and have constant refining. If they pumped oil from the two relief wells, plus what they are recovering from the top hat, they could pump maybe 100,000 barrels a day. Presumably the leak would be much less( maybe half) with the pressure reduced from the additional wells. In 500 days the well would be empty. That would still be about 5,000,000 more barrels leaked.
At least there would be plenty of money generated to clean up all the oil.

500 more days of oil leaking!!! This might be the end of a way of life on the gulf coast forever folks.

You thought your home values and economy on the cape was bad before?
Gee, even yachtcare is starting to worry.

I don't believe in them, but we need a miracle here. I hope all you praying believers are right and there is a God who gives a crap, cause we need him or her now.

Always looking for God to intervene when we totally screw up. His system is automatic. Freedom or Free-doom.

We are not worthy of the Almightys help.

We are an evil generation of selfish pigs that are worthy of anhilation, HIS mercy is to leave us to our fate. After all we chose it.

Oh, gee. Just what we need. So the tar balls won't only contain oil and dispersants that might be toxic to marine life & humans, but nuclear particles.

"Mommy, why is my grouper glowing?"

Since this isn't the religion forum, I won't elaborate too much, but in answer to your post, why would God let people jump 100 stories off a burning building to their death while making sure Suzy got her new job or Bobby's fiance said yes to his proposal? It makes no sense. To me that would mean that praying is like calling a radio contest hoping you'll be caller number 9.

I'm one of those believers you mentioned since I believe in a power greater than man, but prayer isn't petitioning or pleading. It's asking for the ability to raise your energy and intellect level, which are gifts most of us have but don't tap into very often, to a higher level. One gift man was given is common sense. How's that working out for most of us?
