We are relocating to Ft Worth and we have heard that Mansfield is a good area with great schools. We have been down there once to visit and by driving around it seems that some areas of Mansfield are better than others. Some of the neighborhoods we looked in seemed to have seen better days. We are looking for a nice family neighborhood, house budget of between 200,000 and 250,000, good schools (elementary through high school). We would also like access to some sort of community pool, although this is not a deal breaker.

Any feedback on areas or schools to look into or avoid would be greatly appreciated!

Personally, I would not recommend anyone to Mansfield. The only times I go over there is if I am looking for a part for my old vehicle at one of the junkyards.

I live in Southwest Arlington, but am in Mansfield quite a bit. I'm not sure of any community pool, but most people I know from there either use the pool at Lifetime Gym (and have memberships) or have passes to Hawaiian Falls. It's a great family friendly Christian water park, but smaller in size designed for younger toddlers up to early teens. I personally love that water park and find it very nice and clean. As far as neighborhoods, they have a few treed neighborhoods with custom style homes, mostly off of Matlock area near Broad Street. They may be higher than your budget allows though. I think there are some nice houses around the golf course too off of Country Club road. I think the best elementary schools are zoned for Boren and Brown, but there may be a couple more good ones. I hear the best high school is either Mansfield or Legacy depending on who you ask. I would probably pick Mansfield first for my own kids just based on what I've heard. There's also a lot of box cookie cutter type of homes in Mansfield that are very treeless and plain. That doesn't work for me, because I like trees, but I know not everyone cares. Mansfield is probably one of the best areas on the Southern side of DFW, but I will say that I don't think it's lived up to what people thought it was going to be. The schools aren't as highly rated as they were 5 -10 years ago. I believe it just grew to fast to keep up and they've redrawn the boundaries for several schools. You can go to Greatschools.org to find out more on ratings. You might also look into Southwest Arlington, homes ONLY zoned for Martin High School. It has some pretty neighborhoods around the lake and a few other parts, but they are what I think of as pocket areas. Much of Arlington has seen better days. As far as the people go, I really like all the families I know in Mansfield and find the people very friendly and family oriented. Has what I consider to be a small town feel, where lots of people know one another or are very willing to smile and say Hi. Good luck!

The little truth writer has Mansfield mixed up with Business 287 otherwise known as The Old Mansfield Hwy which is actually in Kennedale. However there are several large beautiful homes/lots in several Kennedale neighborhoods.
Mansfield does have an older area however it is surrounded by larger houses and there are some starter home neighborhoods. Explore the other areas, Lake Ridge H.S. just opened in S.E. Mansfield.

Unless you want to work at a fast-food joint or one of the many bars, most people commute to Fort Worth to work

and that commute is taking longer and longer according to someone who lives in Mansfield National development and works in Sundance with my husband
what they regret is living in area where there is not lot of places to go to dine out or be entertained...
they tried to buy in Mid-Cities area like Colleyville or in upscale parts of FTW like Tanglewood when they moved from Shreveport 5 or so years ago--
but the RE market was hot, their budget did not go as far as their must-haves--
they bid on several houses but lost them--got frustrated after being in apt for almost a year and started looking in Mansfield--
they like their house but regret the location--
they are in their late 40s-early 50s and no kids so their living arrangement is different that lot of people buying/living in Mansfield
