Hello!
My husband, daughter, and I are relocating to Ft Hood area from Germany in Sept/Oct! I'm trying to get as much info as possible, see some pics and done what research I can from across a few thousand miles of ocean so that when we get there (without anything but our dogs, a coupla suitcases, severe jetlag, and a rental car) we can hit the ground running. We are looking for any pics or advice for the Gatesville town.
We are horse people, stripped of our precious elderly, heeevy quarter/arab that we left behind in Ohio (sob) when we moved to Germany, and hoping to find a good stable close by the area for lessons and boarding.
Also looking for a rental property with some land around em, maybe even pasture for a horse or smaller stock... somethin to stretch out in since they pack you like sardines in tiny apartment buildings in smidgen-sized apartments in Europe. I want to be able to take a shower without five other families knowing the water is running Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

probably should post this in the main TX thread or maybe even Austin -- that is closer to Ft Hood than Fort Worth...

Hmm Forthood area? I was stationed in Ft Hood (Ex military wife) I would say Gatesville is probably the best area for the things you are looking for. I would not recommend living in Killeen! Uggggggg! We relocated from Japan and let me tell you Killeen was a cesspool of strip joints and tattoo parlours! The mall and strip malls are as good as it gets there and a 24 hour super walmart that I took advantage of at 4 am to avoid the masses! It is the biggest armoured base in the United states woth over 15, 000 soldiers and some with families stationed here! We lived in the willowsprings but quickly moved as soon as our lease was up. Then we relocated to Harker Heights and this was not far enough we evenmtually ended up in Copperas Cove which was not that bad. We knew a couple whom lived in Gatesville, they purchased a mobile home and had some land they seemed to love it there and he did not mind the drive. You must go to Belton Lake during christmas though the set up they have there was fantastic for the youngens! Good luck!
It is very hot during the summer so make sure you have airconditioning, it is very cold during the winter and the rain can be brutal nott too mention the "hail" so make sure you have a car port or a garage! But the short spring they have there and the short fall is beautiful!
