Hello everyone, I have been reading some of the threads on this forum and thought it would be beneficial for me to register an account. So like many of you in Texas I work in Oil and Gas -- in Alberta, Canada (think Texas but the opposite weather).

I have recently been considering a job offer out of Cleburne, TX -- I have been told Fort Worth is my best bet for a place to live. Not really interested in living in Dallas but also can't see myself living in population less than 250K. I spend about 6 weeks every year in Houston for work but have yet to venture over to Dallas for more than a day or two, and have never been to Fort Worth. Never have had a bad experience in Texas and find the people extremely friendly and down the earth.

How bad is the crime in Fort Worth? Ideal neighbourhood(s) for a single guy in his early 30s? (Will probably wait to buy but willing to spend ~$1100-1500 /month in rent)

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

crime is minimal except for a few spots and if you are paying that much in rent you won't be living there
you might really enjoy living in downtown FTW sundance sq area--rental condos...
lots of restaurants/bars/
there is minor league hockey team and baseball team there
TCU football is pretty good as well

Fort Worth is a great place to rent/buy. The nightlife is happening in downtown FW. You can find a nice apartment on Bryant Irvin, South of I-20. There are also some new apartments off of I-35W off of Heritage Trace exit. You have a few choices where to rent it just depends on what area you need to be close to for work. The good thing about Fort Worth is that no matter where you choose to live, it's a 15-20 minute drive to the downtown area which is very nice. I read about crime and see it on TV every day but as far as it being any higher than any other city...no. Hope this helps.

IMO Fort Worth and the surrounding areas are one of the best kept secrets in the country, and I'm not a native Texan; I'm just an Okie that has lived in this area for the last 19 years.

Fort Worth is a FINE city. Yes, there are areas that have crime, but for the most part Fort Worth and the surrounding areas are crime free.

I live in a suburb of FW (Hurst) and the area in which I live is EXTREMELY safe. We've lived here for 10 years and have experienced ZERO crime.

Good luck in your decision to move.

Yeah, just a few years ago, Fort Worth was ranked as one of America's most liveable communities and the 11th safest large city in America. It's also one of the fastest growing.....

You might also look at Burleson, a little closer to Cleburne (still a hike) and gets you out of a lot of the I35W traffic southbound. I have not lived in Cleburne but have done lots of business there and it is a GREAT community. It's not 250,000 people but it is full of laid back charm and has everything you need. I'm a realtor as well so if you need any help, feel free to ask. I was born and raised in Fort Worth and lived here all my life.

First of all, thanks for all the replies! I love the southern hospitality.

I am flying down on the 12th to look at some houses -- not really sure what is involved with a Canadian on a work visa buying a home so I will have to look into it. That said, the prices are so low compared to what I used to so I might just rent -- amazing what you can get for the money.

My buddy that works for the same company that hired me is trying to convince me to live in Cleburne -- says its close enough to Fort Worth/Dallas.

I think Cleburne has about 30,000 people, which is ok but I am a single guy that will be hunting for his Jessica Simpson lookalike so I would prefer a bigger population. I will take a look anyways.
