Commute to/from Arlington
I've done alot of searches on this forum and have found some good info, but not particularly what I'm looking for. I'm entertaining a job offer in Arlington, unfortunately in a busy area: on East Lamar Blvd. I was wondering what the daily commute is like from say downtown Ft Worth.

Commute from Arlington-FT Worth Texas (back roads)
I'd suggest
N Collins St. South
to R on E Randol Mill Rd.
L on N Cooper St.
then R on W Sanford
Take W Sanford to N bowen
Bang a Right on 180 W Division St.
then R on Cooks Ln then
L onto Meadowbrook into Fort Worth
Meadow Brook will be quicker with fewer lights than 180
probably less traffic too
follow along with googlemaps.com
and google map earth view

No way it takes 30 min from downtown Ft Worth. Maybe half that.

Arlington has bad roads IMO--seems like they are always working on them which impedes the flow of traffic--
and the 30 min might actually be accurate from door to door depending on the time of day and school zones in play...getting out of downtown would not be the problem so much as getting back in at end of day

Timed it this morning at 8 AM- 15 min on the nose from downtown Ft Worth to Lamar/Cooper exit, even with the rain. I had to pick up my car at a dealership in Ft Worth.
I-30 generally flows well both ways in the morning even with the rebuilding of the segment around the Cowboys Stadium.
That said. construction west of downtown FW on I-30 is a problem right now. It slows down a lot around University and Forest Park.
One of my favorite things about where I live is that I can get to downtown Ft Worth in 15 min and downtown Dallas in 20. It almost makes up for having to drive 15 min to South Arlington or HEB a lot to shop.

THanks for all the info. I was wondering how bad the commute from Ft Worth to Arlington was. The job opportunity is great, but I really don't want to live in Arlington. I'd much rather live in Ft Worth. A friend of mine does the commute on Mondays from FTW to Arlington, but he uses I-20 and gets off at the Cooper exit, so I was wondering more about I-30. I know that public transit used to service that northern route to Arlington but they no longer do so.

actually there is limited T-service to Arlington/FTW now--
it is a trial project but think there as been better rideship than anticipated so it may be permanent
you should check out the T web site for info

I did check it out. They were initially running two routes: the northern route that dropped off near I-30 and E Lamar Blvd and the southern route that dropped near I-20. They cut the northern route, which is the one I would need. However, I kind of like the idea one poster suggested of taking the backroads. I don't know how long that would take in comparison to the freeway during rush hour, but alternate routes are always good. Right now, I only live 7 miles from work and I don't use the interstate because I have 3 alternate routes all down divided roads or sidestreets.
