My husband will be working at Dulles airport and we are looking at buying a house in Frederick MD. Would that commute be a rediculous idea?

It can be a somewhat longish drive but not unusual for this area. It would also depend on exactly where in Frederick you are starting and where near Dulles you are going to. Having a flexible schedule can help because sometimes 15 minutes in when you need to be there can make a big difference. Looking in Point of Rocks or elsewhere south of Frederick along US 15 would shorten the commute. I made the commute down that road for about 10 years but that was a few years ago. Books on CD help to make the drive bearable :-)

Not a terrible idea -- I'd budget anywhere from 45 minutes to 1:15 each way depending on when you leave and where in Frederick you're starting from. I'd lean more towards the southern side (Ballenger Creek, etc.) though.
