The other insurances $130 per month. Water is another $120 per month. Internet/phone another $100. New appliances I owe on that are coming due. What is left over? And I'm not even working right now! So I guess I'd fall into the category of the people you hate.

You cannot begrudge people for having bills to pay. It's how they live.
You would need to read the whole thread. But really, the frugal living forum is not the place to go and say "I am not working right now, and am having a hard time paying for all these new appliances I just bought.".

You are just BEGGING for people to go Ape s#@# on you. Saying "My paycheck is spent before I get it, and there's NOTHING I can do about it" is like throwing up the bat signal and having all the Frugal-ites descend upon you in a frothing rage.

By the way, the OP would only hate you for your situation if you constantly whined about it. If you suffered in silence, then you would probably get along swimmingly. He doesn't "begrudge" you the way you live. He just doesn't want to hear about it. Live in poverty and spend more than you make. More power to you. Just don't complain about being broke and then say "but my new appliances are sooo pretty".

Saying things like "you cannot begrudge people for having bills to pay" is counter productive. We ALL have bills to pay. It's just some of us make sure that those bills are less than our paychecks. The way we do that is spelled out in great detail in this forum. Check it out.

I've posted plenty in this forum to "get it." I disagree with the OP's take on things and think it is somewhat immature that he or she takes this attitude.

What you are NOT talking about is that the OP is just damn lucky to even HAVE a job. That to me is the epitomy of whining and complaining - that your coworkers eat out X times per week and you feel the need to "instruct them." Sheesh.

And when you own a home and appliances fail completely, you have to buy new appliances. I had ONE burner working for the longest time and a refrigerator that was leaking.

Do you actually think that the rulers of the world are put into power by humanity?

Oh yes. Hellbound sounds interesting. What is that world like?

I really think you need to re-read the original post. The OP is talking about people who complain all the time about being broke but either are not or have caused their own situation by poor management. I didn't get the impression he/she was talking about those who had lost their jobs.

I don't think you do "get it" because this was a good natured "commiserate with me" post that has gone on for 5 pages. It's in the frugal living forum, and it's about how sometimes it is difficult to relate to people who are NOT frugal.

You came along and turned it into "oh woe is me" and criticized the OP based on the fact that YOU don't have a job. Which has nothing to do with what the rest of us was talking about. We are talking about people who complain about being broke, but still spend money like it is going out of style. THAT is the topic. I am sorry that you got all butt hurt, but you do realize that we are not directly criticizing you?

And I do own a home. And it sounds to me like your appliances didn't "fail completely". You still had a burner, and leaks aside, your fridge still worked. New appliances were not NEEDS. They were wants. And since you are unemployed, you probably should have used the old appliances a little bit longer, since money is so tight.

Now, in your situation, I might have done the same thing. I might have bought a new stove and fridge. But I definately woudn't have come onto the FRUGAL LIVING forum, and complained about being broke when I just bought these new appliances. Use some common sense. Do you go into the Christianity forum and insult the Pope? You can't have thought that this would end well?

I am sorry if that doesn't make sense to you. But I can sort of see why you are offended by the OP. You are basically one of the people that the OP is talking about.

I read the post and it was chock full of "I Judge." It's really not the OP's place to go judging and think he or she has the answer, anymore than it was the previous poster (to whom I responded) that thought I bought pretty appliances. I got the least expensive appliances I could that were working and functional.

And maybe I don't like someone complaining and sitting in judgment of other people who do not do things the way he or she thinks should be done. Maybe I don't like complainers about people who complain.

Ok, and you are one of the "judgers" I am talking about. FYI, I plan to put my house on the market which means that things have to work. I did the minimum required to do that. Now I have an oven with a coil that doesn't work and I'll do my best to replace the coil (even though the oven is 30 years old) but it just might not work.

Bottom line, I never like a thread that complains about broke people when this economy is as it is. Some compassion is in order and it's not my job to go around and decide who eats what for lunch, who buys a $12 shirt. That is the small stuff and the OP would do better to be reading investment books than complaining here.

Some compassion may be in order if the OP was talking about the unemployed. But she wasn't. She was talking about the people she WORKS with. And the OP specifically said she didnt' care what they bought, only that they complained that they had no money, yet bought stuff anyway. That is what the thread is about. People that cry poverty, but waste money. It was all good natured until you came along and internalized it and got this weird idea that someone was talking about you.

Well....that couldn't be the case, because you are complaining now.

I maintain....if you don't want to be "judged" then don't go on the frugal living forum and talk about how you have no money. Better yet, if you are so thin skinned, maybe you shouldn't divulge personal information on the internet?

I understand. Sometimes I don't like threads either. So......I dont go on those threads. By george, that solution is so simple, IT JUST MIGHT WORK!

Any thread entitled "I hate being around broke people," in this economy, is not going to engender good will from me. It's as simple as that.

But carry on about all the employed people who complain about being broke - because just maybe they ARE.

Furthermore, some people need a little boost now and then for being a slave (which is what this workforce has come down to), so it's no surprise to me that they'd want to eat out or spend $12 on a shirt.
