I hear lot about saving lot of money by buying eye glass online. The frames price look cheap but my main concern is the cost of lenses, that is what eats up most of my money. I am -5.5 in both eyes so I need thinner lenses.

Most brick and motel shops have cheap and expensive eye glass frame. But the cost escalates when I want antireflective coating and high index lenses. I still want those feathers in my glass. Will I save any money by going online since bulk of my expense is in lenses.

I wouldn't risk buying them online. I wear bifocals, and found that the best prices are at Costco. My newest pair were $165, as opposed to the optical store that wanted $360, and that's for transition lined bifocals.

I have a friend who has purchased eyeglasses online from two separate companies and in each case, he is well satisfied with the product and the accuracy of fulfillment of the prescription.

I'm thinking about trying a pair from one of the companies.

Mf bf likes his glasses from 39dollarglasses.com. Look online for coupon codes.

So are you actually saving money?

I nor.ally shop at Pearle vision when I have insurance & on average I still end up paying ~$200 out of pocket. This year I cancelled my insurance to see if I save money. I checked Pearle vision & local small eye glass place

Pearle vision
Lenses $220
A/R ~60. I forgot what they quoted
Frames ~ 125 cheapest 100, average r 150 few super expensive
------------------------------
$405 average glass
But they have 30% off one glass ===> $283
Or buy 1 get 1 free, making each pair ===> $203

Local small business shop
Lenses + A/R $160
Frame $70 most are $50-$100
-----------------------------------
$230 with no discount

I didn't save any money by going for small business instead of big chain. I am still paying over $200+ & no brand name, don't have comfort of reliability. You can Say I did save $50 but I was looking for more in this case. How is the breakdown for online purches. I doubt I will go back to mom/pop shop ahain

Zenni optical! They're about $7, $5 for shipping, $5 more for tinting ($12 prescription sunglasses!). Mine have always been decent quality, not $400 quality, but great for the cost.

The online places are good if you don't have really bad vision. I can't use them. Like the OP, I need the high index lenses or my lenses would be like Coke bottles. That costs money. Then there are the bifocals without the line. Also, with a high prescription like I have, those places won't fill the prescription. Those online places are good if you just have ordinary vision with no special problems and not a high prescription.
