Tamara, I live a very different life than you do, and I don't keep firearms or scuba dive, so I have nothing more constructive to add to that aspect of the discussion. As for the flashlights, my philosophy is to minimize, which sometimes means that I cannot economize. I would buy the battery, not the lantern.

The thing is, you pursue pastimes that require a lot of equipment. That's not a minimalist lifestyle. There is really no solution to your issue -- not that it appears you're looking for a solution -- other than to drop some of your activities and all of the stuff that goes along with them. If that's not the lifestyle you desire, then you're just going to have come to terms with your stuff.

The answer to your original question is found in the previous two paragraphs: minimalists like me don't have hobbies like yours. That's how we avoid the clutter.

Hobbies and minimalists do not cancel each other out. It means keeping it to what is actually being used versus what might come in handy in case of WWIII.

I understand. I have hobbies. They just don't require a lot of equipment.

Well, I doubt that minimalists are Rennies or belly dancers.

I'm a minimalist, but not a die-hard one that doesn't believe in wearing shoes. I just like to have less items, I'm not really a consumer like many Americans. Focus on the things you truly enjoy in life and get rid of the rest. Technology also allows one to de-clutter their residence.

How do minimalists escape the necessary clutter of life?
By deciding that clutter is not necessary.

The OP has shared on a previous thread enough info to confirm that she is almost certainly a hoarder. Most of the stuff she compulsively saves has nothing to do with her hobbies.

A friend of mine is very active as belly dancer; solos, fairs, community events, competition. There is no junk in her closets. SO is into SASS which means costumes, accessories, ... He can probably pull out red, black or silver outfits/boots/hats blindfolded.

Sure they are.

Why would you even think they cannot be?
