Maybe I'm an a-hole, but I don't think that just because your priced your food at $100/plate...
The a-hole part is in KNOWING the deal and then thumbing your nose at it.
Can't afford the 15% or just don't wanna? Don't go to table service restaurants.
Want to pay more sometimes? Wonderful... but don't go in expecting to pay less.
Don't be that guy (the a-hole).

Minimum wage is $7.25/hr in the U.S. So it's not like wait staff go home with less than $7.25/hr unless there's something illegal going on.
FYI We servers do not get minimum wage. I don't know why people don't understand this. We get tipped employee wages. In NC it's $2.13 an hour. In Fl it's $4.25 an hour. In CO it's $4.98 an hour PLUS TIPS

There are FIFTY different states and each sets its own minimum wage. In addition, many cities have their own minimum wage that applies within their city.
What the earlier poster said was correct ... for that city.

Well, you work in the industry, so I don't see why you have an issue with what I said. Minimum wage is $7.25/hr and it's not like servers go home with less than $7.25/hr... no matter what state you are in. Of course, in NC the amount is $7.25/hr, in FL it's $8.05/hr and in CO it's $8.23/hr. It's not like tipped employee wages make a difference to the employee...

Nope. You're wrong again.
In MOST states waiters are paid only HALF of the minimum wage by the restaurant.
In the rare instance where their tips are "calculated" or "imputed" to be less than the difference
(eg during a blizzard with no customers) then and only then the restaurant will be expected to
make up the difference.

It looks like your reading comprehension has completely failed you. I never said anything about what the restaurant pays. I said that waiters never go home with less than $7.25/hr. Which you basically supported by example. So before calling out someone for being wrong, slow down, and try to actually comprehend what they are saying.
Actually he's right. You should familiarize yourself with the laws before incorrectly calling someone wrong. As he states, servers must receive a minimum of $7.25/hr from a combination of wages and tips. It is illegal in ALL 50 STATES for them to go home with wages less than that unless they are provided lodging at the place of work (an outdated law that is still on the books.
It's always concerning when people don't know the laws of the areas they live in. Such ignorance can lead to horrible decision, not to mention outlandish accusations in discussions.
I remember someone in the industry someone telling me 40% is the new standard. Since I'm starting to make more, I've been tipping 30%, but I rarely eat at sit down meals. Only once this new year.

True.

I hope that the confusion of the last several posts in this thread doesn't come down to semantics. You rarely if ever "go home with" the amount you receive in gross compensation, regardless of whether that compensation comes from wages, tips or some combination thereof (because of taxes, deductions, etc.)

There are several states where the tipped employee get more than the Federal min wage plus tips.
