what are peoples opinions on the tiny homes on wheels. I think there cute and good for one person. as this is in my future plans once my wife passes on from cancer is to buy one. I can see two pro's to them already no property taxes since there considered an rv and if I don't like my neighbors I can grab the key and go. id'e go for the cypress model from tumbleweed I know there not cheap as well. as I am preparing for the minimalist lifestyle. there's no way that one person needs a 4000 sq ft home let alone all of the headaches of bills heating and cooling it maintance repairs insurance

I'm with you! If hubby goes first (he's a car guy so we have to stay int he house for his projects) I would love to have a tiny house. I am a minimalist at heart and would love to be in a compact space. I also do not want the headaches of our large home and lot now that the kids are grown.

OMG someone's with me on this whole plan. your hubby does auto work. i am in the process of living a minimalist life style. i could care less even if i have a FICO score i have money in the bank my house is bought and paid for in full. but it will be sold off once i don't need it. i drive a 40 year old Mercedes that burns veggie oil so i don't have to buy diesel only very rare occasions do i have to buy diesel!! i'm not in DEBT over my head like some people are as i can't think of all the intrest coming out of there years. and i can move anytime i want to if i don't like my neighbors. the cons of a tiny house is poor fuel economy. but i think i would rather buy a tiny house on wheels vs some cheap fiberglass RV

I was introduced to the idea of tiny houses by a really good friend who's son was building on. It sounded like a very interesting and worthwhile idea. I then dug down into it a bit, especially as my friend started asking around about opportunities for her son to locate the tiny house once it was finished. I started reading the advice being given generally about that aspect of tiny houses, advice that as often as not relied on ignoring rules and regulations. There are some common rationalizations bandied about, but it reads to me like a big cop-out -- an abrogation of the responsibilities people living in community with others have to abide by the standards of society.

I think tiny houses are a great idea, but it seems to me that the community and industry that has been built up around the idea needs more accountability.

You will pay taxes on the land you buy for your tiny house.
You will also have to pay to have utilities put in.
And when you "grab the key and go", you will have land to sell off.

There is middle ground between Tumbleweed and 4000 sq ft that facilitates minimalism.

Your tiny house will also require "heating and cooling it maintance repairs insurance"

I think they are kind of cool. But if I owned one I don't think I would move it very often. I think the wheels thing is more of a way to avoid taxes and building codes, they aren't really very mobile. I would consider this.

I agree with you that I would have to pay taxes on the land to put my tiny home on. but i'm going for the rv version now wich just requires registration fees!! I don't plan on buying land to soon so that would eliminate the headache of selling the land off. as far as utilities i'm going with a 50 amp system and a ductless mini split ac unit with a heat pump and a propane stove. and possibly a Dickenson marine stove. yes I also agree that a tiny house requires maintance but nothing like a traditional 3000 sq ft home

theres lots of things to consider. though I would have no problems with paying taxes I guess you could say that about people living in RV'S fulltime also . I just think there a better value than a fiberglass RV

I think they're awesome and have watched a few documentaries on tiny living. Not practical for a family with growing boys like mine.
