Why are you frugal (best, price, money)

Is it because it's in your nature or do you have a particular reason why you're frugal. (income, goals, etc)


The reason why i became frugal because i wanted to beef up my savings account. Sure, i could go to every sporting game in california, buy every video game on my consoles, buy the most expensive jordans to add to my collection, or go to the naughty adult clubs, but i want to beef up my savings account just in case something catastrophic happens.

--I like the sense of peace and security that comes from having savings and investments.

--I don't like cleaning and organizing a lot of stuff.

--Lower consumption is generally better for the environment.

--I like not following "the standard path" and I enjoy "beating the system".

--I like the feeling of having options in life such as:

Being able to change jobs/careers and/or go without paid employment for years without completely depleting savings or running up debt.

Being able to semi-retire in a lower cost of living area.

Being able to quit my job and help my aging parents, if necessary.

Being able to say "FU" to my job/career if it gets ugly.

Being able to pay cash for a good used car.

The biggest motivators for me come down to having flexibility and freedom in life.

I'm frugal because I was raised that way. Whatever we had growing up was "good enough". I do not want for more.

And because I've been frugal all my life I plan to retire early. I think that's a pretty good return on my investment.

I am frugal because I do not have any choice. I have to save because unemployment only pays $371 per week for 6 months.

Why live it up now when most of the time/resources is spent working and raising children? Live it up later in retirement when work is no longer a burden and children are self-sufficient.
