We bought a sectional sofa and a recliner (in nice shape!) for $75!! We got it from a yardsale at an older folks community, the lady was moving and had to get rid of her furniture :P

I bet I get into trouble for that post...LOL
+1

Yeah, I also got quite a bargain on this end too. And to think, in return, she got stuck with me!

As far as tangible merchandise, my wife and I bought (2) This End Up bunk bed sets with trundle bed for $500 from Craigslist. The seller included mattresses (still wrapped in manufacturer's plastic, plus she had them encased in zippered mattress protectors) for all six beds. She also threw in a nice 7ft sofa and matching loveseat from her seldom-used living room for free! Since we only needed 1 of the bunk bed sets, we sold the other for $300. So in the end, we paid only $200 for everything.

You can't beat This End Up...

We bought our chair ottoman and sofa 22 years ago, and we've bought new cushions three times.

I'm getting SICK of the stuff. But's it's still perfectly good.

My husband. Low miles, sturdy chassis, pretty easy to shift, great comfort and runs great on most any fuel...especially peanut butter.

It was just last week. I went to GNC to get me a Quick Flush drink and the original price is $44.99 but since it's already July and the expiration date said 09/2009 she gave it to me for $11.49

That was great for me because I was not about to pay $44.99 for this drink AT ALL!!!

We bought a couch and chair from Craigslist for $50. It was about 1 1/2 years ago, and I was just browsing.

I'd been eyeing the exact same style on a website. These are pieces that are typically custom ordered... the cushions are removable and sit on a wood base. Extremely comfortable. Typically sell for $1k-2k plus shipping brand new for the couch and $500-1k for the chair.

My second best bargain was a HUGE dresser, amazing quality, heavy wood, cedar drawers, lined interior... I wanted a dresser for my craft supplies... $10 at a garage sale.

Reading over some of the other posts in this thread reminded me of another one...

3 years ago, a big box Office supply store did a 1 cent back to school sale. I got there 1 hour early, thinking the lines would be ridiculous. NOPE! Boxes of pencils, crayons, plastic folders, scissors, pencil sharpeners, index cards, plastic pencil boxes, spiral notebooks, glue etc... all name brand stuff. At the time, I only had 1 school age child. I gave out crayons along with EVERY gift, donated TONS of stuff to his classroom and STILL have index cards, folders and pencils from that sale. I spent $25 on school supplies total- including his backpack ($12), 3 boxes of kleenex ($5), box ziploc bags ($2) and disinfecting wipes ($2).

Go to the discount stores around September 15th (or four weeks AFTER the start of the school year in YOUR area). You will find that often, the prices are 60-80% off, lower than many of the promotional items.

A couple of years ago, I purchased a couple of cases of 3" binders for $2/ea rather than the $20 I was usually paying.

I saw a young tree which was discarded in the trash at the nursery. When I hauled it out, the sales person told me "Honey, that will never last here. It was sent to us by mistake."

I asked for it anyway and was given it. Today it is 30 feet tall and is a highlight on my garden.
