Last year I had this huge patch of mint, about 10 ft by 10, that came out of nowhere but came in handy. Then came winter and NO SPRNG just rain rain rain and now that I can go outside again the mint has been replaced by buttercups, which are cute and I don't mind them but I'm not sure what to expect from them. Are they a perennial? Do they remain a green ground cover through the winter? Any info welcome and thanks in advance.

Buttercups are a plague. They will send out shoots starting new buttercups in an exponential explosion of interconnected buttercups.

Each plant roots in with a dense network of fiberous roots which have to be dug as they are too tough to pull. If the dug buttercup is not removed it will root right back in and continue to thrive and spread.

I fight these demons constantly in wet areas with dense clay soil. They will overtake lawn areas an out-compete the grass. They will spread into ground covers and garden beds. Do not allow any buttercup to survive, if you do they will take over and are very difficult to eradicate once established.
