We've got a paper birch tree in our front yard. Small, sparse, and the entire trunk, from ground all the way up, is peeling. Do we peel the bark off? Leave it as is? Anything special that should be done for it?
None of the branches are peeling, they are all a light brown color. But the trunk piece..... it looks like it's diseased, it's peeling so bad.

That is normal. Do not peel bark off a birch tree.

That's considered an ornamental feature of the tree. Paper birch, however are not the most adaptable tree for a home yard and are susceptible to borers amongst other things.
