This Reversible Mats Outdoor Patio RV Camping Mat is great value and made stronger than the more expensive competing mats in here. We tried it out during our fall camping last week and the outdoor condition was messy. The leaves and sand and water were easily shaken off. Great to have!
I was just thinking the other day how much I love my dead nettle. It's an ugly name for a hard working plant.
When I bought it I was unsure but I have two different varieties and over time they have found empty spots here and there in my gardens. They bloom and rebloom in summer here and have attractive leaves.
They like to stretch out but I haven't had a problem with trimming them back to their rightful places when necessary. It requires a little digging of shallow roots as well. Only bought a few plants and now they are bountiful. It was a good choice for us.
I have had success with moneywort keeping out weeds once it was established. It will spread rather quickly but you will have to actively keep the weeds out until it fills in. It's also called creeping Jenny. It is a nice color, low to the ground, can withstand light walking and likes full sun.
Whatever you plant make sure it's containable. We have had several that are incredibly invasive. Not sure of the name, but the variegated stuff, I think it's a Lamium variety. It will take over everything if you do not contain it. Ivy is similar.
We have had good luck with Ajuga. Looks nice, dense, but is not as aggressive as some others we have tried.
Red apple ground cover. Use "Post" if weeds emerge thru it. Bees are attracted to the red flowers.
Or, disneyland iceplant.
Neither promote fire.
If I lived in a higher number zone (I'm in 7A) I'd use iceplant all over the place. I love the mounds of bright flowers. Unfortunately, here they become blah lumps in the winter. But they're gorgeous now. I like how the flowers close at night too. I have fire spinner and a bright pink one.
