Does anyone know where one can buy good old earthworms? I have looked and cannot find anything other than earthworm casings which is not the same thing. I want earthworms to aerate my soil.
Barring finding them for sale, how else can one get them? Soil here is dead.
You can get redworms in the Sporting Goods section at Wally World.
I am not talking about red worms or compost worms. I am talking about earthworms.
Some worms excel at composting and some are made for earth moving. While all worms are sometimes referred to as earthworms, it's usually the night crawlers we refer to as an earthworm. Redworms are usually called red wigglers, although, they too, are an earthworm technically speaking.

Yes. I've mail ordered them for reptile food quite often from multiple sources. Most nightcrawlers seem to be imports from Canada. Considering that many "worms" already present in your soil are probably non-native and may have displaced the original natives, the potential impact of introducing more of same might be something to think about. If they don't happen to like your soil (temperature is a big one...they won't do well if too warm) they'll keep dispersing unless you confine them to a bin. If you want to rely on them to break down food material, be aware they're slower at it which is why red wigglers are preferred for composting. They reproduce themselves slowly too.
^^^ I have looked on Amazon and elsewhere on-line for the past 2-3 years to no avail. This is why I asked here.
584 hits "nightcrawler worms".
