My dh and I just bought 40 acres in the east TN mountains. We are in zone 6
This land hasn't had any people living here in over 100 years and I'm not certain about that. There have been cows in here for many years.
We have about 100 apple trees although I have no idea what kind. We also have some wild balckberry(?) bushes. These bushes are a mess with weeds growing in them and they aren't producing as well as they could, I'm sure. A lot of the berries are still small and red. How do I make these plants healthier? Should I weed them now or next year? What about fertilizer? What kind? I would love to have healthy plants next year.

Take your information to your local AG office and talk to them about the berries, trees and other questions, they can advise you on what to do.
