Having been to Europe many times and being from NY, which has a lot of European expats as well as tons of European tourists, I can tell with about 85% accuracy what country Europeans are from before they open their mouth, but that's also a function of how they dress and move.

I can usually tell Asians apart as well, but that's harder for me. Japanese are the easiest to tell.

With Euros the nose usually knows. With Asians it's more a general facial feature thing, although in large countries, like China, people from different parts of the country can look very different.

Well yes, compared to Africans/Indians/most South Americans he would not be considered dark-skinned; but among white ppl, he's dark; his daughter has been asked on many occasions what nationality they are & nobody believes her when she says German. Usually ppl think she's Spanish or Latino of some sort.

How dark as Bavarians anyways ? Would this Italian American woman for example be able to easily blend in a crowd of Bavarians ?

Absolutely, being that I've been to Bavaria and noticed quite a few ladies who looked like her.

It's quite simple really, if you stay in a European hotel, just set your alarm clock for let's say five AM, and you will see plenty of Germans claiming their pool loungers by putting towels on them.

You can't miss them.

I believe I've commented on how German the area is I'm from once or 20 times.
Anyway, Schwartz is a very common surname there....and yes, they're all Schwartze Deutche.

How do you distinguish Germans from other Europeans?
When I whip out my Uzi, they're the ones that always shout: "Nine!, Nine".

I'll never figure out the number reference for the life of me!
