I am looking for my Munroe relatives from Ireland. I have a letter posted December 5, 1950 from a Mary Munroe, Galway Road, Tuam, County Galway to my Grandmother Kathryn Monroe Schaefer in Fort Madison Iowa USA.
Mary Munroe mentions that her parents died in December 1943 and September 1943 and are buried in the New Cemetary in Tuam and that they have a "superb monument". She also mentions there were 12 children in her family: Joseph Gabriel, Catherine ( who moved to the states in 1903), Martin ( who moved to the states in 1912).
My great great great grandfather was:
Martin Monroe (1829-1896) born in Tuam, emigrated to America, lived in Nauvoo IL
His father was:
Patrick Monroe ( b. 1794) in Cambelltown Scotland
His father was:
John Munroe (b. 1765) Scotland
Does this information match up with any information anyone has on their family? Are there any Monroes/Munroes living in the Tuam area still?

How were Kathryn and Catherine related? It looks like Catherine was a sibling of Mary.
Have you acquired your grandmother's obituary which could mention her siblings if you do not already have all those names.
Same for Martin.
Are you in the Iowa or Illinois area?
I do have all of my grandmother's siblings and parent information. The Catherine was possibly a sister to Martin. I only have his birth date and place, no sibling information.

Hi MaryAnn, have you done your DNA? If so consider uploading to the free sites (My Heritage, GEDmatch, GEDmatch Genesis and FTDNA). After uploading to GEDmatch and Genesis, consider joining the Scottish DNA FB group where they take your GEDmatch kit number to match with people already in the group; it may help you to break down some walls.
