What I regretted taking was a ton of needless junk and papers.
Once I started unpacking and organizing there were clothes that were too small for my kids, papers that were thrown in a junk drawer, along with misc. toys.
I have moved several times, and the best move was when we de cluttered everything!! Go through clothes, papers, junk drawers etc and get rid of everything before you move!!
Sorry I took: an electric dryer when moving to a house with only gas dryer hook up. And nope you can not even give it away here--as everyone has and wants gas.
Another sorry--that stinky bag of trash the packers boxed up and put on the truck!
Things I missed--pretty much everything the truck driver stole! Boxes of brand new already wrapped b-day and Christmas presents. (I moved T-day week and had everything planned for the kiddo's b-day and Christmas as I knew I did not have time to start a new job, move in, and go shopping in a new area done...well I had to anyway!)

The dryer=funny!
The presents=Really scrooge of the movers! I hope you were at least able to claim them. Awful.
How did they know what to steal? That sounds like something I would have taken in my vehicle. I'm nuts, all the jewelry, silver and computer stuff is going with us. And yes, it will all get wheeled into the rooms where we stay overnight.
- camping battery (one of those 15 pound batteries one can plug stuff into) - mine was not charging all the way, but I should've brought it because I needed it almost immediately when a t-storm knocked out power.
- about six books that were sold by accident (they have since been replaced)
- a bag of my winter things, including my dress coat and wool gloves. (tossed out by accident, I think)
- the main box of office supplies (staples, tape, white board markers) - the little box made it. (also tossed out by accident, I think)
- Lastly, I wish I had brought a few more bottles of booze. I gave most of my stock away because I felt it too difficult to move safely.
Stuff that shouldn't have made the trip:
- the guest bed - it was one of the single, metal ones from K-Mart. Guests would rather sleep on the air bed or in a hotel. I bought new queen mattresses first thing and had them delivered on moving day.
- as many dishes as I brought. I don't know why I brought two boxes of them. One would've been enough and I ended up donating them.
- could've done with less clothing, as well -- ended up donating two bags
There may have been some odds and ends, but those are the main things I remember.
I give myself a 92% for this move. I moved last year during August when the days were 100+ degrees and high humidity. I had few helpers and did the bulk of the packing and unloading myself, so I knew that I would make some mistakes. I put $300 aside to replace broken or lost items.
Every time I move I wish I had actually disposed of several things. Moving is a great way to purge yourself of useless junk and excessive consumerism.
