I got a quote for a move for a studio apartment that is just about 20 boxes, a bed, a 32' flat screen tv, and three tables... the distance is a little over 900 miles and also include a small compact car... They wanted about $4200... that sounds excessive to me... what do you think, do you know of any movers that is cheaper?

1) UPS as many boxes filled with what you can't rid yourself of or will safely fit inside the car
2) sell or even give away the rest
3) drive the car there yourself

hth

That's outrageous!

That's $210 per box. You can overnight them for less than that.

I think it is outrageous... the three tables are 2 x 2 x 2 feet each (actually, they aren't even tables, they are night stands)... and 20 boxes is an overestimate...

I moving a 2 bedroom apartment 800 miles. I'm using ABF trailer and loaders and Unloaders. It costs about $1900 with supplies. You should get at least 3 quotes and do it before May. It's moving seasson.

For the trailer or actually full service movers? That makes a big difference. I'm using the trailers. They told me $4600 for full service movers. That was too much!

So I called up another 4 moving agencies and none of them would like to go out and look at the place to give me a quote... they rather I just tell them what needs to be moved and they try to get an estimate with it... I don't like this... its just leaves them more opportunity to rip me off..

Craigslist: Sell bed, three tables, and TV.

UPS: Ship boxes after you get rid of whatever you don't really want or need.

Car: Drive it.
