I had to move so much as a child that I swore I was gonna stay put.
I got tired of the uprooting every three years.
I've been in this house for 15 yrs and plan on staying until I retire in 15 more.
I hate moving. I prefer to save my wanderlust for my vacations. I moved a lot when I was a kid, and later throughout my 20s and 30s. It was such enormous work to move. It felt so disruptive and exhausting (even when I would hire someone else to handle all the moving details). I've been in my current house now for over 10 years. I like seeing trees getting taller and enjoying the benefits of my remodeling efforts (because I've never moved into a house where I've thought, 'I like this just the way it is.'). Recently, I've been getting antsy and thinking of upgrading to a nicer neighborhood, but I think I may wait a few years. :-) Also, in the past, I had moved to take on a new job. Sometimes the job was a better opportunity, but in more cases, it had not been worth the level of disruption in my life caused by having to move. One of these jobs had ended a year later in a layoff, and I wished I hadn't moved and left friends and activities back where I had been living before.
Hopefully, only 2 more times maybe 3. Even that is too many. I've moved 22 times in the last 24 years. I'm only counting after I got married (so averaging approx. 1 a year) 6 of those were International moves and I don't want to do it anymore. I have only once used a moving company to pack everything, otherwise I've done it mostly all myself and it is such a pain! So I have one more move to get back to the States, and probably a couple more when I get there, but once I get settled then I don't want to move again, ever.
I love to move. Getting ready to move to NM permanately when we sell our house in Texas.
I moved around a lot when I was a kid and an adult but as soon as we get to NM, I think it will be time to settle down.
