I'm moving to a place about 7 hours a way and figure that after the movers pack my things that I will proceed to drive over to the storage unit that I'll rent ahead of time. Is this how moves of this sort are usually done? What happens if they arrive early.. is there some sort of surcharge? I prefer to drive at the speed limit and need to take several breaks along the way as a petite woman with a small bladder! I wouldn't be surprised if they arrived before I did despite driving a truck.
This is one of those times where either you or a friend (or relative) really needs to be there when they arrive. Most won't wait more than a few minutes and then it's heck to reschedule. Do you know anyone trustworthy in the new place who could be on standby?
OP, you might want to cut down on your fluids (no soda or coffee, just water) for the evening before and day of the move and if you can get someone comfortable with freeways to help with driving, you may have an easier time with the trip.
Good luck with your move! It's just one day of misery. Do the best you can and let us know how it went.

Ask the movers, not the internet... How would anyone know what the movers are going to do after they leave your house? They might not deliver for days, not hours, especially if they are packing for you too. They don't pack, move, and deliver 7 hours away on the same day.

^^^that^^^. When we moved 3 years ago we discussed 'possibilities' ahead of time and one of the guys would even text us their progress on the road so we had an idea of the timing. We had also rented a storage unit space on-line at the city of arrival.
Give the guys money to have lunch on you! That will slow them down, and also elevate you in their eyes as being a grateful caring customer.
