most likely moving with no major jobs lined up(not worried about income) but staying with family. Planning on finding a place within 2-3 weeks tops. Both have cars to transport, therefor cannot drive a moving truck ourselves. We would have 2 dressers, a full size bed, a chair, and a few other things and boxes we can't fit in our cars... I don't think that much
OPTIONS...
A. Pay movers to load, move, and unload items at new place... keeping in mind that once we leave NY they have to hold onto the stuff until we find the new place and sign a lease.
or..
B. try to sell what we cant fit in our cars(large items), and buy all new things there... I am "thrifty" but some things I like new... ie.. mattress(bought last one 600$ new) etc... and craigslist is only so useful.
which one would cost less/less hassel/ more cost effective?
other ideas?

There will come a time when you have really valuable items or antiques or inherited furniture you want to keep. Since you have ordinary furniture, I would sell or get rid of, and buy in the new place. You can keep the cost down by buying from consignment shops and such, which sell high quality items at reasonable cost, and will deliver for nominal fee. Lamps and such are easy enough to replace (order on sale over the internet).
Just load up your cars, and get rid of the rest. It would be worth it for the hassle alone. Also, every time you move, there is risk of damage to your things, anyway, especially if you won't be there to observe the guys loading and unloading.
I am moving a 3 BR house, with some large items that would cost a lot to replace, some antiques, etc. So I'm paying to move and store. But on the advice of others, I'm getting rid of as much of the other stuff as I can (tools, outdoor items, knick knacks, cheap lamps, lots of books which still leaves me with over 50 small boxes of books I've collected over the years, cheap glasses, old luggage, etc.).
