Hello, I just rented a moving truck with trailer. I declined coverage at the rental place because I thought I had really good insurance. Turns out my insurance won't cover a moving truck.

On the form I signed with rental company it said if I declined now I wouldn't be able to get insurance.

Can anyone give me any ideas on how I can get coverage elsewhere? I hear that some insurance companies will cover the moving trucks. I am willing to switch insurance providers.

Just need some ideas - don't have the cash to risk this during a cross country move! Thanks!

Hello, I am going to check when they open. I'm just afraid that they'll flat out say no, or ask to take the truck back?

I rented the truck yesterday, and have only driven it probably 10 miles. It is sitting empty at the moment.

Do you think there's a possibilty they will let me bring the truck in for inspection and let me add insurance?

The form I signed at the end basically said 'this is your last chance to add insurance'

Rental companies make money off of the damage waivers. I'm sure they'll be happy to add the insurance for you. It protects you, and it puts money in their pockets.

Good luck with your cross country move.

FYI, in my experience many insurance companies' policies don't transfer over to rentals. The insurance offered by the rental companies can seem high, but peace of mind has no price tag. Having worked in the rental business before, I can tell you that I've seen people have significant damage to a vehicle, and with the damage waiver, they were able to walk away with no hassle. I've seen people have NO insurance whatsoever, wreck a car, and be out the money.

Call the place where you got the truck. Explain the situation to them.

Rental companies make BIG money off their "additional" insurance. They'll be happy to sell it to you.
