I would suggest Albuquerque or Santa Fe as well. Nice, dry climate, close to some good skiing. University of New Mexico in ABQ as well as St Johns in Santa Fe. Or you could look at somewhere like Lubbock Texas. It wouldn't be my first choice but it a nice city with a dry climate, realatively mild winters and about 4.5 hours from skiing in Ruidoso NM. Plus its home to Texas Tech University.

No offense, but I'd go to California way before I'd go to any NE state or city (with exception to NH)

also forget anything mentioning career choices, as its not really a concern now (just need to focus on a school now)
