Found a link to this on another forum. It's an interactive mapping tool that shows census information.

Thought I'd share it here.

That's all I have to say.

Default Mapping America: Every City, Every Block

This is a really interesting graphic from the NYT mapping income in every block of the US.

Mapping America — Census Bureau 2005-9 American Community Survey - NYTimes.com

How does your neighborhood rate? Mine is middle income, for my region, and slightly higher income for my city. It is pretty evenly split between the range of blue to purple.

I think the dots are placed randomly within each census tract.

So much for every block, but that would explain it.

I can see why the dots are randomly placed. Most of the household incomes in my tract are in the low range but there is one that is $200,000 plus. I'm not sure exactly who it is and I bet he or she likes it that way ;-)

I would guess that since the data is from statistical surveys, taken from 2005-2009, and not the actual census enumeration of 2010, the data set does not include exact street addreses but only census tract. Wait a few more months for the enumeration data of 2010 to become available.

What a joke.

It would appear from that map that there are only 3 incomes in my entire town, but the totally uninhabited sand dunes/woods North of here are doing very well. Well not totally uninhabited, there are some deer that wander through.

My entire town has 3 dots in it one <30k, one in the 50k range, and one in the 75k range; the dunes have 20 or 30 dots, all of them are over $50,000, a couple of them are in the 200+k range..
