So in our local newspaper there was a online article about two friends who visited Detroit, one from New York City and the other from Washington D.C.

They liked the atmosphere and one left their job in NYC and moved to Detroit and the other left in D.C. and headed to Detroit.

Here is the online article for more information.

Would you think about ever doing the same thing?

I normally don't read this kind of stories and articles, however this one is rather interesting and think what they did is really cool. :]

Sorry but I did the Detroit thing and wouldn't consider it. Detroit has all of the trappings of urban life with very little joy. Glad these two folks want to jump in and I hope for Detroit's sake more people do.

I would never even consider a move to Detroit. If I was forced to move to the area, I would choose the far exurbs or rural areas 40 or 50 miles away.

I was in Detroit in the late '70s with a friend of mine to visit his family. That visit left a lasting impression on me. Definitely a no-go for me. Some areas looked like a war zone.

I wish them luck, but Detroit is in the very very beginning stages of urban renewal in areas. A lot of investment in the city has come from companies outside of the city and state. It doesn't even seem like many in the metro area have faith in the city; look at the folks in the suburbs. In fact, Cleveland based Forest City was the company that renovated the Book Cadillac building.

Many areas of the city have taken on the urban prairie method, and I see that being a good start for Detroit because so many neighborhoods look like open fields now. But Detroit needs people like that. But I wouldn't do it.

no, all places I have moved to I at least knew a few people or they are extremely attractive places to live (Paris). I don't know anybody in Detroit or even Michigan. I wouldn't see the point.
