I wouldn't worry too much about the power plant. It has been fine for many years, and due to stringent regulations, it will most likely continue to be just fine.
If anything, it is the stuff that you don't see coming -- like the poisonous gas cloud from the fire in Apex about a year ago -- that'll get you! And as that industry is largely unregulated (or underregulated, as it were), that's when you start to have lots of problems!
Just consider this to be an incentive to get involved in your community and hold certain companies responsible when they create huge messes.
