[quote=sacramento916;20554464]Sacramento - underrated because it sits in the same state as SF, LA and SD.
Oakland - because it is across the bay from SF.
San Jose - because it is located 45 minutes due south of SF.
Essentially San Francisco is the overachieving older sister that bashes down its siblings and leaves them with low self esteem.[/QUOT
I agree! All 3 are awesome. Sacramento is a great river city whose eastern burbs are in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, which include all the great mining towns on highway 49. It has more going for it than Denver IMHO. Eastern Oakland is sensational with the hills and mountains, etc. I would also add Long Beach.

Yes. The great thing about Sacramento is that the region is vast. The Metro stretches literally from the borders of the bay area and the Delta to the territories of the Sierra Nevada.
Also, Sacramento has a lot of character. I remember I was in a speakeasy during the jazz festival in a 150 year old building watching a live jazz performance and I thought how similar the feeling was to when I was in the French Quarter in New Orleans. I grew up in SF and I never imagined Sac was anything like this until I moved up here some years ago.
Sac is way underrated. If it was located farther away from SF, it would probably be known a lot better.
I went to Oakland, Ca. expecting to see only gang members and Hells Angels and bombed out neighborhoods, but it's pretty damn nice.
