I can open carry here (Michigan) without any license. That map shows that most of the NE and Midwest are open carry, but just haven't passed a law for the entire state. They leave it up to local jurisdictions to decide. I know that Maine is the same way in the NE. I think there are 15 or 16 States that leave it up to local areas to allow open carry or not without a license... so that does not limit it to a few Mountain states and VT.

Open or concealed carry should be universal across the USA. It should be a federal law, not up to each state.

I thought the Supreme Court ruled on that recently - a citizen's right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed anywhere in the United States.
