Hello all,

I am a 23 year old college graduate and am currently completing grad school. I will have the privilege of being able to move almost anywhere in the continental US and would like to hear your expert opinions on where the best place for me in this country might be. The following 4 criteria are the most important things to me:

1) Young population
2) Good weather
3) Walkability
4) Active community

Based on those things and you experiences/knowledge, if you were a 23 year old single, straight male in my shoes what places/cities would you give the hardest looks to?

Austin, Tx; Portland, Or; San Diego, Ca.

In all honesty, there's only a few places that are big, are walkable AND have good weather IMO. For this, I'd probably look at parts of Los Angeles, San Francisco (although it's not WARM year round, you aren't going to really get a snowstorm in the winter), maybe a few parts of San Diego, Austin, Miami, and New Orleans. Maybe parts of Seattle or even Portland although their weather is not amazing like it can be in a place like San Diego.

The two constants between the first two replies were San Diego and Austin, two cities that were already on the top of my list. I've heard they both suffer from a lack of women though. In general women outnumber men on the east coast and men outnumber women in the midwest and west.

Although San Diego and Austin remain viable options, I have heard Charleston, Atlanta and Raleigh are great for young single men. Can anyone attest or detest to those statements?

Those cities are extremely hot in the summer. Do they meet your weather requirements? (What kind of weather do you like?)

Austin has no shortage of women, man! I don't know where you got that idea from.

4.3% less females is nothing in a city of over 820,000 people. You're talking like 35,260 less females than males.

My friend recently lived in Austin and commented pretty much everyday on the Plethora of hot women around. I don't know if it's like that everywhere, but he seemed pretty thrilled about it.

In San Diego, the large military presence skews the male to female ratio a bit, but local ladies tend to shy away from sailors "just passing thru". I've always lived in California, and never noticed a lack of females, especially attractive ones in the beach towns. Best bet is to narrow your focus, then visit the areas. If you visit the beach towns in Ca. in the summer, I'm sure you will be swayed. Huntington Beach/Newport is worth a look, as well.
Good luck wherever you land!
