Just curious...
When driving in your city do you find that you use your horn often?
If you do, under what circumstances (that is, to honk at friends/associates, to warn other drivers of a potential collision, etc.)
How about other drivers in your city?
In the city where I live (Richmond, VA) there seems to be a general rule that it is rude to honk your horn. I've seen near accidents & accidents where drivers never honked to warn the other driver of the pending collision.
If you do honk your horn the other driver almost always takes offense.
While in Philadelphia I noticed some drivers honk at intersections to alert crossing traffic that might not have been able to see beyond cars parked along the sides of the streets.
I think drivers should be encouraged to use their horns more often (for what they were intended...to signal intent & avert accidents).

I've never heard more horns anywhere than in LA. People where I live tend to not use them. Personally I enjoy honking at people and do so whenever I can, but I'm a jerk when I drive so...
it's pretty rare to hear a horn in Las Vegas....and if someone honks when the light changes green you can pretty well bet it's a new comer and everybody turns and stares.....or salutes
People seem to honk for no discernible reason here in Chicago. I discovered when I moved away for a bit that I honk more than the average joe, but at least I'd like to think I have a reason when I do so.
Here in Utah people don't honk until they're a foot from clobbering another car, or when they see a friend. In Charlotte, North Carolina people didn't honk at all except to get people moving on a green light.

i don't think I could sleep at night if i didn't hear the random honking. Hell, the TRAIN even frequently honks while its going past my window. (Ok, granted, they are doing work at my stop, but, you know...)
The only time I usually ever have to use my horn is when there is a green light or red light with a green arrow and the car in front of me isn't moving. Other than that, I rarely ever use it.
